Hon. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, Minister of Youth and Sports, has commenced the first phase of a nationwide county tour with her arrival in Lofa County, marking the beginning of a field assessment aimed at strengthening youth development and sports programs across the country.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is designed to evaluate existing youth initiatives, sports programs, and the condition of sports infrastructure at the county level while improving coordination between national authorities and local stakeholders.
Five Counties Targeted in First Phase
The first leg of the tour will cover five counties including Grand Cape Mount County, Margibi County, Gbarpolu County, Lofa County, and Montserrado County.
During these visits, the minister and her team will conduct on-site assessments of youth centers, sports facilities, and ongoing government-backed development programs. The exercise also aims to identify challenges affecting youth empowerment and sports growth in the counties.
Officials say the tour will provide the ministry with firsthand information needed to inform policy decisions, improve resource allocation, and design programs that directly respond to the needs of young people.
Multi-Departmental Delegation
Accompanying Minister Kruah is a technical delegation drawn from several departments within the Ministry of Youth and Sports, including Human Resources, Internal Audit, Assets Management, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Sports, and Youth Development.
The presence of these departments is intended to ensure a comprehensive review of administrative systems, program implementation, and infrastructure management across the counties.
Youth Groups Join Engagement Efforts
Several national youth organizations are also participating in the tour, providing a platform for dialogue between government officials and youth leaders.
Among the organizations involved are the Liberia National Students Union, the National Motorcyclists Union of Liberia, the National Advisory Council on Youth, and the MYS Creatives Advisory Council.
Their participation is expected to broaden discussions around youth empowerment, employment opportunities, and the development of sports programs that can create pathways for young Liberians.
Strengthening Grassroots Engagement
The Ministry says the tour represents part of a broader strategy to strengthen grassroots engagement and ensure that youth-focused programs and sports initiatives are effectively implemented across Liberia’s counties.
Officials believe that direct engagement with local stakeholders will help identify gaps in service delivery while promoting stronger collaboration between the national government and county-level youth institutions.
The county tour is expected to continue in the coming weeks as the ministry works to gather insights that will shape future youth and sports policies nationwide.
