Capitol Hill, Monrovia --The Liberian Senate has summoned officials of the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) and the Ministry of Public Works to appear before its full Plenary sitting as a committee of the whole next Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The decision follows a report from the Senate Committee on Public Works and Rural Development, which was instructed by plenary to probe concerns raised by Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr., regarding the appalling state of Monrovia, with specific emphasis on the Palm Grove Cemetery.
In his formal communication, Senator Snowe lamented that the nation’s capital fails to project the image of a modern 21st-century Liberia. He urged his colleagues to take bold and decisive steps to restore dignity and order to the city.
The Bomi lawmaker described the Palm Grove Cemetery, located in central Monrovia, as one of the most visible signs of urban decay and called for its immediate relocation to pave the way for a more befitting appearance of the capital.
The appearance of MCC and Public Works officials next week is expected to provide clarity on ongoing and future interventions to address these concerns.
