Monrovia, Liberia – July 14, 2025: The ruling Unity Party has strongly disavowed an alleged planned counter-protest by a group operating under the banner "Council of Patriots for JNB-JKK," distancing itself from any event claiming to represent President Joseph Nyuma Boakai without the Party’s formal endorsement.
In an official statement issued Monday, the Party emphasized that neither its leadership nor the standard-bearer has sanctioned any form of counter-protest or "Thanksgiving March" scheduled for July 17, 2025. It described the move as unauthorized and potentially disruptive.
“While we respect the constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and free speech, we call on all Liberians to prioritize peace, order, and the collective good of the nation above personal ambitions or provocations,” the statement said.
Highlighting strides made under the Boakai-led government over the past two years, the Unity Party pointed to progress in key governance sectors including national security, price stability, infrastructure development, anti-corruption efforts, and international engagement aimed at attracting investment and creating jobs.
The Party further cautioned its members and supporters to refrain from participating in any retaliatory protests or celebratory marches, reiterating its commitment to national unity and governance reforms under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).
“Those attempting to organize these protests include individuals who once held positions of influence during challenging times for Liberia and said nothing. As a responsible government, we are not here to excuse their silence or failures,” the release stated.
The Party also commended the Liberia National Police and other security agencies for their professionalism and urged continued diligence in upholding peace and the rule of law during all public gatherings.
