Liberia has opened a new diplomatic chapter with the United States as Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, the country’s newly appointed Ambassador, officially presented his letters of credence to U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House.
The ceremony, held in the historic Oval Office, symbolized a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. President Trump extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Conteh, expressing optimism for deeper economic engagement and broader cooperation.
“We look forward to expanding trade and investment opportunities that benefit both nations,” President Trump said during the meeting.
Ambassador Conteh, a seasoned academic and diplomat, is expected to prioritize educational exchange, economic cooperation, and cultural diplomacy during his tenure. His appointment reflects Liberia’s renewed focus on international partnerships aimed at tangible development outcomes for its citizens.
According to a release from the Liberian Embassy, the presentation of credentials marked more than a traditional diplomatic formality. It described the occasion as a “renewed commitment to dialogue, partnership, and prosperity.”
Following the formalities, Ambassador Conteh participated in strategic discussions with fellow diplomats, outlining his vision to attract investment and enhance Liberia’s global profile. His goal is to ensure that U.S.-Liberia ties translate into real opportunities for the Liberian people.
The day began with the Chief of Protocol of the United States, Monica Crowley, officially receiving the Liberian envoy. Ambassador Conteh then signed the President’s Guest Book in the Cabinet Room before proceeding to the Oval Office for the credential ceremony.
As Liberia reaffirms its bond with one of its oldest allies, the stage is set for a dynamic era of diplomatic engagement and mutual advancement.
