MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Eugene Lenn Nagbe, Chief of Office Staff to former President George Weah, has strongly defended the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) amid ongoing controversies, while unveiling plans for a new party headquarters in Congo Town.
Appearing on OK Conversation with Julius Jeh on Monday, Hon. Nagbe accused the ruling Unity Party (UP) of ignoring Supreme Court rulings and using force to achieve political objectives, referencing the removal of former House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa as an example. He rejected claims that the CDC was lawless in its handling of the party’s eviction, insisting that the party had exhausted all legal remedies and maintained its rights as a legitimate tenant.
Former Commissioner Nagbe further disclosed that within a year, the CDC will begin constructing a new headquarters in Congo Town, with a committee to supervise the project expected to be announced soon. He argued that the Unity Party has no moral grounds to criticize the CDC, stressing that unlike UP in the past, the CDC consistently paid its rent.
Hon. Nagbe also revealed that the party plans to sue the government and the Liberia National Police for what he described as property destruction and invasion of privacy during the eviction exercise. At the same time, he said the CDC has already begun taking inventory of members affected by the incident in order to provide humanitarian support.
Mr. Nagbe rounded up his remarks with sharp criticism of the government’s handling of the economy, accusing the Unity Party of using the CDC’s eviction as a distraction from pressing national issues such as rising inflation, depleted reserves, and increased GST. “Everything is going up,” he said.
