A group of disillusioned District Youth Leaders within the ruling Unity Party has issued a stern warning to the party’s executive leadership, threatening mass protests if longstanding grievances are not addressed within fifteen days.
In an open letter released today, the youth leaders who describe themselves as "disenchanted" accused top party officials, including Secretary-General Amos Tweh, Paynesville Monrovia City Mayor, Robert Bestman, and Hon. Cornelia Kruah Togba, of neglecting the young activists who played a pivotal role in the Unity Party’s 2023 election victory.
"We, the Disenchanted District Youth Leaders of the Unity Party, write to you today with heavy hearts and determined spirits," the letter stated. "Two years into your tenure, we see no tangible empowerment of the youth who secured your electoral triumph.
"The youth leaders allege that opportunities such as scholarships, employment, and professional development have largely gone to family members and close associates of senior officials, leaving the party's grassroots activists sidelined.
Their demands include:The immediate creation of a Youth Scholarship Fund with transparent criteria and independent oversight;
A priority hiring quota allocating at least 20% of new civil service and party-sponsored jobs to qualified district youth leaders;
A regular dialogue mechanism, with bimonthly roundtable discussions between executive leadership and district youth representatives.
"If these demands are not satisfactorily met within fifteen days, we will escalate our peaceful demonstrations to every party office, government building, and leader’s residence nationwide," the youth leaders warned. "We stand prepared to persist rain or shine, challenge or repression until justice for our sacrifices is secured.
"The letter concludes with a call to action under the rallying cry, "Aluta Continua!"As of this publication, Unity Party executives have not officially responded to the youth leaders' demands.Keep following Teeria Online Television
