Monrovia, Liberia – August 5, 2025 — The Government of Liberia has reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the rule of law by enforcing any court-ordered eviction against the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), according to Deputy Information Minister Daniel Sando.
Speaking Tuesday at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, Minister Sando stressed that no political party is above the law, adding that the CDC must respect any legal ruling regarding its current occupancy dispute with the estate of the late Martha McCline.
“Nobody is above the law,” Sando declared. “The Unity Party was once the ruling party, but when they couldn't pay rent, they did not cling to the McCline property. They left—overnight. That was the honorable thing to do.”
The deputy minister’s remarks follow a recent court ruling denying the CDC's petition for specific performance in a case surrounding the party’s headquarters. The landlords have since requested full possession of the property.
“A small shame is better than a big shame,” Sando continued. “It’s better to leave voluntarily than to have your belongings thrown out. If the court grants the writ of possession, the government will enforce it—and then you [CDC] will face even more setbacks.”
The dispute has drawn public attention, with political observers watching closely to see how the government will navigate the enforcement of the court's decision in a politically sensitive climate.
