The Director-General of the Civil Service Agency (CSA), Dr. Josiah F. Joekai Jr., today delivered copies of the draft Civil Service Commission bill to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Koon, for enactment. The proposed legislation seeks to establish the Civil Service Commission of Liberia, in line with Article 89 of the 1986 Constitution, which mandates the creation of autonomous public commissions.
The bill, submitted on behalf of the Executive by Dr. Joekai, was accompanied by a letter from President Joseph N. Boakai Sr., emphasizing the importance of this legislation in modernizing and optimizing Civil Service operations. The proposed Commission aims to ensure fair access to employment and career advancement, improve working conditions for civil servants, and promote transparency and professionalism in public service.
Receiving the draft Act, Speaker Koon thanked Dr. Joekai and assured that the House of Representatives, under his leadership, will give the instrument timely consideration. He emphasized the need to take care of civil servants, stating that when they are given decency in their working area, things will move speedily and smoothly in the country.
The draft Act will now be forwarded to the relevant committees of the House for scrutiny and subsequent action.
