The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has expressed deep concern over a recent judicial decision regarding its national headquarters, alleging bias and abuse of judicial discretion. The party claims that the Civil Law Court's ruling has undermined the Rule of Law and threatened Liberia's democratic stability.
The CDC has occupied its national headquarters for over two decades and had engaged in negotiations with the property owners to secure its purchase. However, the landlord initiated an illegal eviction attempt, which the CDC challenged and won at the Supreme Court. Despite this, the Estate issued an eviction notice, violating a binding agreement.
The CDC filed a suit for Specific Performance, seeking judicial enforcement of the sale contract. However, Presiding Judge George W. Smith dismissed the case without hearing its merits. The party has since announced appeals to the Supreme Court in both the Specific Performance and Summary Proceedings cases.
The CDC has raised concerns about judicial impartiality, citing the unprecedented order mandating Liberian National Police intervention in a civil property matter. The party condemns arbitrary judicial actions that jeopardize fairness and urges its partisans to remain calm and patient.
The CDC is finalizing the appeals process and making arrangements for an orderly transition to a new national headquarters. The party remains committed to the Rule of Law and is working towards a lawful resolution of this matter.
