In a major stride toward restoring public confidence and ensuring integrity in the country’s healthcare system, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Liberia has officially launched its Anti-Fraud, Anti-Corruption, and Whistleblower Protection Policy.
The comprehensive new framework aims to root out unethical practices, safeguard whistleblowers, and promote a culture of transparency and accountability across all levels of the health sector—from the central administration to remote facilities.
“The health and trust of the Liberian people depend on the integrity of our healthcare system. This policy is a bold step towards building a more transparent and accountable health sector,” said Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto at the official launch ceremony.
The policy aligns with both national anti-corruption mandates and global best practices endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Key Pillars of the Policy Include:
A strict zero-tolerance approach to corruption and fraud in the health sector
Confidential reporting channels for whistleblowers
Strong protections against retaliation for individuals who report misconduct
Capacity-building initiatives for health workers on ethical conduct
A monitoring and enforcement mechanism to ensure compliance and investigation of allegations
Officials emphasized that the policy is more than a document—it’s a call to action. “This is about protecting the lives, resources, and dignity of the Liberian people,” said a spokesperson from the Ministry’s Communication & Health Promotion Unit.
The Ministry is encouraging all health workers, partners, and stakeholders to report any suspected cases of fraud or abuse—no matter how minor—through secure and confidential means.
