Monrovia - LEC Projects Enhanced Grid Reliability, Targets Long-Term SustainabilityThe Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has unveiled a renewed commitment to delivering reliable power to Liberians, with a focus on long-term sustainability and customer-centered service.
The assurance was given by Mohammed M. Sherif, the Acting Managing Director of LEC, during a live appearance on OKFM on May 5, 2025.Sherif revealed that between April and June 30, 2025, the utility company expects a significant drop in load shedding incidents.
He emphasized that the improved service would only be disrupted for customers who fail to maintain credit on their prepaid meters, stressing the importance of timely payments to ensure uninterrupted access to electricity.“This is not just a promise,” Sherif noted.
“We’ve been working tirelessly to stabilize the grid, upgrade our infrastructure, and manage power losses. From April through June, the lights will stay on—unless your meter runs dry.”The LEC boss attributed the progress to recent investments in energy infrastructure and technical capacity, including the expansion of power lines and increased energy imports from regional partners.
He also highlighted ongoing collaboration with international donors and local stakeholders aimed at building a more resilient power system.Despite challenges such as illegal connections, technical losses, and limited generation capacity, Sherif expressed confidence in LEC’s roadmap.
Acting MD Shireff said the next five years will be critical in transforming Liberia’s electricity sector, as the corporation continues to implement strategic reforms to improve service delivery.
With the government prioritizing energy access as a key driver of economic growth, LEC’s vision for a stable and sustainable power supply could be a game-changer for businesses, households, and industries alike. Sherif called on the public to support the corporation’s efforts through responsible usage and consistent meter recharging.
