The National Insurance Corporation of Liberia (NICOL) has concluded a highly impactful participation in the 20th Annual International Seminar organized by Ghana Reinsurance Company PLC at the Aqua Safari Resort from February 22–28, 2026.
The NICOL delegation was led by Acting Managing Director Abdullah S. Swaray, who steered the Corporation’s strategic engagement throughout the week-long technical forum. Under his leadership, NICOL participated in specialized underwriting sessions, high-level panel discussions, and structured networking engagements focused on strengthening institutional expertise in property insurance underwriting and claims management.
Held under the theme “Advanced Property Insurance Underwriting and Claims Management,” the seminar convened more than 100 insurance and reinsurance professionals from 12 African countries, including Ghana, Gabon, Ethiopia, Sudan, Togo, Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi, Liberia, Namibia, and Cameroon. The event provided a dynamic platform for cross-border knowledge exchange and peer learning within the African insurance ecosystem.
The programme delivered in-depth practical case studies, scenario-based risk analysis exercises, and expert-led discussions addressing complex underwriting challenges, catastrophe risk assessment, loss adjustment frameworks, and efficient claims administration systems. Participants engaged in structured simulations designed to improve risk pricing accuracy, strengthen underwriting discipline, and promote transparent and timely claims settlement practices.
NICOL’s participation reflects its broader institutional reform agenda aimed at aligning operations with international best practices. By investing in advanced technical training and regional collaboration, the Corporation continues to build a modern insurance framework capable of effectively managing emerging property risks in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.
Speaking at the close of the seminar, Mr. Swaray underscored the strategic value of the engagement, noting that the knowledge and partnerships established will directly enhance NICOL’s operational efficiency and service delivery standards. He emphasized that improved underwriting rigor and claims management systems are critical pillars in strengthening public trust and ensuring financial protection for both state assets and private sector investments.
Beyond technical capacity-building, NICOL’s presence at the seminar deepened its strategic relationship with Ghana Re and other key players across the African reinsurance market. These engagements position the Corporation to leverage stronger reinsurance partnerships, optimize risk-sharing mechanisms, and expand its regional footprint.
As Liberia’s state-owned insurer, NICOL remains committed to professional excellence, institutional resilience, and sustainable growth. Its continued participation in high-level regional forums signals a clear determination to strengthen Liberia’s insurance sector and contribute meaningfully to national economic development through robust risk management and financial security systems.
