Monrovia, Liberia – October 6, 2025: The Liberia National Police (LNP) has launched an investigation into an alleged gang rape involving a 60-year-old woman in Ganta, Nimba County.
According to police sources, one suspect has been arrested and formally charged in connection with the incident, while another remains on the run. A manhunt is currently underway to ensure the fugitive suspect is apprehended and brought to justice.
Preliminary findings indicate that the second suspect is reportedly the son of a serving police officer. The officer in question is under investigation by the Professional Standards Department at LNP Headquarters for allegedly attempting to obstruct the arrest process.
In a statement issued Monday, the LNP reaffirmed its commitment to impartiality and accountability, stressing that “no one is above the law,” including members of the force. The police further condemned all forms of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and vowed to ensure that justice is served.
“The Liberia National Police remains committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting the vulnerable, and maintaining public trust,” the statement added.
Authorities say the case is being handled with urgency and sensitivity toward the victim and her family. The LNP has also appealed to the public to assist with credible information that could aid the investigation.
The police have promised to provide timely updates as the investigation continues.
