Monrovia, April 13, 2025 — Teeria News Desk. CMC write the Office of the Ombudsman…
The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) has officially lodged a formal complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman. The complaint is against senior officials of the Unity Party who are allegedly engaging in political activities while serving in presidentially appointed positions.
In a letter dated April 13, 2025, and addressed to Cllr. Finley Karnga, the CMC cited a clear violation of Section 5.1 of the Code of Conduct for Public Officials and Employees of the Government of Liberia. The section explicitly prohibits officials appointed by the President from engaging in political activities. It also prohibits canvassing or contesting elected offices. The need for the Ombudsman’s intervention has never been clearer.
According to the complaint, Unity Party officials currently holding government appointments were seen participating in political campaign activities. They were acting in their official capacities. The CMC described the incident as a “blatant disregard for the law” and a threat to Liberia’s democratic process.
“The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) strongly condemns this action and urges your esteemed office to investigate and take appropriate action by your mandate immediately,” the letter stated. ”This misconduct directly undermines the integrity of Liberia’s electoral process. It sets a dangerous precedent for future elections if left unchecked.
”Wilfred Nehwon Bangura II, Secretary General of CMC, signed the letter on behalf of the movement. He expressed confidence in the Office of the Ombudsman to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability, regardless of political affiliation.
The CMC emphasized its willingness to cooperate and provide further information to support the Ombudsman’s investigation.
The public now awaits a response from the Office of the Ombudsman regarding this complaint. They also await any actions to be taken against the alleged offenders.
