Solidarity & Trust for A New Day (STAND) has strongly condemned President Joseph Boakai for what it calls an “outright refusal” to recognize House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, in defiance of a Supreme Court ruling affirming Koffa’s position. In a fiery statement issued Thursday, STAND labeled the President’s action as a “grave betrayal” of the Constitution and a dangerous attack on Liberia’s democratic order.
“This is more than political disagreement; this is a deliberate affront to the authority of the nation’s highest court,” said STAND Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr. “It is a reckless attempt to place political self-interest above the rule of law.”
STAND warned that President Boakai’s refusal to comply with the court’s decision threatens to unravel Liberia’s hard-won democratic gains and push the country toward instability.
“By trampling on the authority of the Court, the President has sadly declared war on the rule of law,” the statement said.
Asserting that no politician or president is above the Constitution, the group pledged “unwavering resolve and organized action” to confront what it called an “unlawful defiance.” In partnership with the grassroots organization
‘WE THE PEOPLE’ Movement, STAND announced an emergency mass meeting to be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2 p.m. at its headquarters in Congo Town.
“Yes, enough is enough,” the statement concluded.
