Capitol Hill, Monrovia – In a bid to obtain a comprehensive update on the investigation into the December 2024 fire that ravaged the Joint Chambers of the Capitol Building, the Liberian Senate has summoned the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), Liberia National Police (LNP), and the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) to appear before Plenary.
The Senate’s decision followed a formal communication from Gbarpolu County Senator Amara M. Konneh, who emphasized the need for urgent clarity surrounding the incident that left significant damage to the Capitol. Senator Konneh noted that while fire investigations can be complex, five months is ample time to determine whether the blaze was a result of an electrical fault or arson.
“The public deserves answers,” Senator Konneh said, adding that concerns from constituents remain high due to the lack of a clear report.
The motion to invite the three government institutions was put forth by Bong County Senator Prince K. Moye and was unanimously endorsed by Plenary.
The cited entities are expected to appear before the Senate on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, to provide a full investigative update.
The Capitol fire, which occurred late last year, disrupted legislative operations and has since raised questions about safety protocols and accountability within the national landmark.
