April 14, 2025: Prophet Key jailed on NEC falsification claim.
MONROVIA – Liberian activist Martin K. N. Kollie has strongly condemned the recent imprisonment of political commentator Prophet Key. He described the move as unjust, politically motivated, and a violation of due process. Writing from exile, Kollie criticized the government for allegedly jailing an individual who played a significant role in its rise to power. This action was taken solely on the basis of a falsification accusation issued by the National Elections Commission (NEC).
Prophet Key, a controversial yet influential social media figure, was arrested after NEC accused him of falsifying his voter ID. Despite already being disqualified from participating in the elections, the case has now escalated into criminal detention. This has raised concerns about legal fairness and procedural violations.
Kollie pointed to inconsistencies in NEC’s actions. He questioned how the Commission had initially cleared Prophet Key to run if there were issues with his documentation. He further argued that NEC’s claim remains an accusation. Prophet Key had not been afforded the right to defend himself in a court of law.
The activist also accused the administration of selective justice. He alleged that while Prophet Key has been swiftly jailed, high-profile individuals involved in passport rackets, corruption, and alleged financial crimes remain untouched. He referenced past cases involving government figures. He then questioned why others with similar or more severe accusations have not faced arrest.
Though Kollie reaffirmed his disapproval of Prophet Key’s public rhetoric and controversial methods, he maintained that justice must be applied fairly. It should not be influenced by political convenience. He warned that the government’s handling of this case reflects a dangerous trend of using state power to silence dissent and punish former allies.
Prophet Key was known for raising funds and mobilizing support for the ruling party during past elections. His arrest has triggered a wave of reactions across social media and within activist circles. There are growing calls for his release and a demand for transparent legal proceedings.
The government and NEC have yet to respond to the mounting criticism or provide a detailed justification for the detention.
