Monrovia, Liberia – June 4, 2025 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) has received a significant boost to its health emergency response capabilities with the donation of vehicles and motorbikes from Plan International Liberia, under the Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH) initiative. The consignment includes three Toyota Land Cruiser jeeps, two double-cab Land Cruiser pickups, and seventeen Yamaha motorbikes.
The donation, presented on June 3, 2025, is part of ongoing efforts to reinforce Liberia’s health system resilience and improve the country’s preparedness and response to epidemic-prone diseases. The resources fall under the Global Fund’s COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM), which aims to enhance frontline health services across the country.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the Ministry, Dr. Catherine Cooper, Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, expressed sincere appreciation to Plan International and its partners. She described the donation as timely and impactful, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the assets are used strictly for their intended purposes.
“We can assure our donors that these items will be used for their intended purpose,” Dr. Cooper stated. “This donation will go a long way in facilitating our work, improving service delivery, and enabling us to reach the last mile.”
In her remarks during the handover ceremony, Madam Mariam Ann Murray, Country Director of Plan International Liberia, commended Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto for her leadership and coordination in managing TB and HIV projects. She underscored the collaborative achievements made under the partnership and expressed confidence in the Ministry’s continued stewardship.
“Thanks to the leadership and coordination around the TB and HIV projects. It has been a long journey, but today we are beginning to see the fruits of that labor,” said Madam Murray. “We are pleased to hand over these capacity-building resources to support the Ministry’s leadership on this important project.”
This donation is expected to enhance Liberia’s ability to detect, report, and respond to public health threats in a timely and effective manner. It also aligns with broader objectives under the C19RM grant to ensure long-term improvements in health system capacity, sustainability, and resilience.
