Monrovia, Liberia – A tragic fire outbreak occurred early Thursday morning claiming the lives of four children in the New Matadi Community, leaving residents in deep mourning.
The victims, identified as Marcus, 14 years, Eman 8 years, Elizabeth 6 years, and Malusu 2 years, were trapped inside a four-bedroom zinc house that was completely engulfed in flames around 1:00 am. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as neighbors tried desperately to assist before the structure was consumed.
Despite a rapid response by the Liberia National Fire Service, poor road conditions leading to the area severely hindered firefighting efforts. Emergency responders struggled to reach the scene in time to save the children's lives.The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover what sparked the deadly blaze.The heartbreaking incident has left the New Matadi community devastated. Family members and neighbors could be seen weeping and comforting one another as they processed the sudden loss.
Grieving families and relatives are appealing to the public and government for support as they attempt to recover from the catastrophe.
Community leaders have called for urgent government intervention to improve infrastructure in the area, particularly the deplorable road network that delayed emergency services. They emphasized that better access could have made a critical difference in the outcome and are urging national authorities to prioritize underserved communities like New Matadi in future development plans.
Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations and local churches have begun mobilizing resources to support the affected families.
