Monrovia, Liberia – In a bid to empower local farmers and strengthen Liberia’s agricultural sector, the Deputy Registrar for Cooperative Development Agency (CDA) Hon. Edwina J. Boima, has commenced the distribution of essential farm implements in Gbarpolu County. The initiative targets farming cooperatives across several counties, aimed at improving productivity and reducing the burden of manual labor.
During the distribution exercise, Hon. Boima emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming agriculture from subsistence to commercial levels. She noted that the tools ranging from cutlasses, hoes, rakes, wheelbarrows, and watering cans are critical for smallholder farmers, many of whom lack access to basic equipment.
"This gesture is not just about giving tools; it’s about empowering our farmers to increase yields and improve their livelihoods," Boima said. "We want to ensure that cooperative groups are better equipped to meet market demands and contribute meaningfully to national food security."
The distribution is part of a broader strategy by the Cooperative Development Services to enhance the capacity of registered farming cooperatives. According to Boima, CDA is working closely with community leaders and cooperative heads to ensure the items reach the rightful beneficiaries and are used for their intended purposes.
Meanwhile, local farmers who benefited from the first round of distributions expressed appreciation for the support. Many described the intervention as timely, particularly as the rainy season peaks a critical period for planting and cultivation.
Lastly, the Deputy Registrar General of the Cooperative Development Agency (CDA), Hon. Edwina J. Boima has pledged to continue rolling out similar initiatives across other underserved farming communities. She reaffirmed that the empowerment of cooperative groups remains a top priority in the government's national agricultural agenda, especially as Liberia pushes toward food self-sufficiency and economic diversification.
