Deputy Information Minister Daniel Sando has issued a stern warning to individuals under investigation by the Asset Recovery Team, urging them to cooperate fully with the ongoing probe. Speaking in his capacity as Deputy Government Spokesman, Sando emphasized that the team’s invitation should not be perceived as a threat, but rather as part of a lawful process aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability.
Minister Sando remarks come in the wake of mounting resistance from some entities linked to the past administration, notably Gracious Ride, a company owned by former Chief of Protocol, Nora Finda Bundoo. The firm has reportedly refused to cooperate with the Asset Recovery Team, a move that Sando described as a deliberate attempt to undermine the government’s anti-corruption crusade.
According to the Deputy Minister, such defiance undermines the principles of justice and accountability, key pillars in President Joseph Boakai’s ongoing campaign to cleanse the public sector of corruption. He emphasized that all individuals and institutions, regardless of their previous status or affiliations, must submit to the laws of the land.
He criticized the legal posture taken by Bundoo’s lawyers, who have called for the matter to be redirected to the courts rather than responding to the team’s summons. Sando noted that this approach appears to be a calculated delay tactic intended to derail the investigation and shield individuals from public scrutiny.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to justice, Sando stated unequivocally that the Boakai-led administration will not tolerate any form of obstruction in its effort to recover stolen assets. He reiterated that the Asset Recovery Team is operating within the framework of the law and its work should be respected by all.
“No one is above the law,” Sando declared, warning that anyone attempting to obstruct the asset recovery process will face the full weight of the law. He stressed that the fight against corruption is a national duty, and the government remains resolute in its determination to ensure accountability and restore public trust.
