The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) has conceded defeat in the Nimba County by-election, acknowledging an “unassailable lead” held by Hon. Kogar of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), backed by the Unity Party (UP) alliance.
In a statement issued Monday, CMC’s Political Leader Hon. Musa Hassan Bility extended congratulations to Hon. Kogar and the Unity Party alliance, describing the outcome as a “healthy and well-fought victory,” while awaiting the official declaration of results by the National Elections Commission (NEC).
“While we hoped the people would have made a different choice, we fully respect their democratic right to choose,” Bility stated. “Despite the harsh realities faced by many of our people, poverty, poor infrastructure, and lack of opportunity they have kept faith with the current leadership.”
The CMC expressed pride in what it described as a principled campaign fought against formidable opponents, including the sitting government and a coalition of prominent former leaders. Bility characterized the party’s participation as a symbolic victory, demonstrating resilience in the face of political giants.
“To the people of Nimba, we say thank you,” he continued. “You have demonstrated unmatched class and civility throughout this electoral process… We have proven that we are politically mature, respectful, and ready to lead.”
The party also commended the NEC for its professionalism and transparency during the electoral process.
Reaffirming its political ambition, Bility emphasized that the journey for the CMC is far from over. “This is not the end for CMC, it is only the beginning. We remain steadfast in our mission to redeem and rebuild Liberia, brick by brick, community by community.”
The official NEC results are still pending.
