Cllr. Charlyne M. Brumskine has been named among the distinguished African women selected for the 2024 Cohort of the Amujae Leaders Initiative, an ambitious program founded by former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to elevate women to the highest levels of public leadership across the continent.
Cllr. Brumskine is the sole Liberian selected this year, marking a significant milestone in her career and for Liberia’s representation on the continental stage. Her inclusion in the fourth cohort places her among a dynamic group of women leaders poised to challenge traditional paradigms and drive transformative change in governance and beyond.
Cllr. Charlyne Mnamah-Mar Brumskine is a distinguished Liberian lawyer, entrepreneur, and politician whose career embodies excellence, integrity, and service. She has built a reputation as a trailblazer in law, business, and governance.
Cllr. Brumskine holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from Howard University School of Law (2002) and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Barnard College, Columbia University, New York (1997). She was Valedictorian of the Liberia Supreme Court Bar Exam (2022) and is admitted to the Liberia National Bar (2014), New York State Bar (2003), and multiple U.S. District Courts. She is currently pursuing a Master of Law degree (LLM) in Corporate and Commercial Law from Kings College London.
In a statement from the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development, the Initiative was described as follows: “Launched by our founder, Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in 2020, the Amujae Initiative is out to do one thing: Elevate African women to the highest levels of public leadership in government and beyond.
The Amujae Initiative is not simply preparing women to lead, it is shifting the very paradigm of power.”
As she joins this elite network of change-makers, Cllr. Brumskine becomes part of a growing movement of African women committed to reshaping leadership on the continent. Her journey is expected to inspire many, especially young Liberian girls aspiring to positions of influence.
