Monrovia, April 14, 2025 — Teeria News Desk. CDC-COP call The Office of the Ombudsman a “Toothless Entity”.
The Congress for Democratic Change – Council of Patriots (CDC-CoP) has called on the Liberian Senate to immediately dissolve the Office of the Ombudsman. They accuse the institution of complicity and ineffectiveness. This is in addressing alleged violations of the Code of Conduct by the Boakai-Koung administration.
In a strongly worded statement issued on April 14, the CDC-CoP described the Office of the Ombudsman as a “toothless and symbolic entity.” They claim it has failed to fulfill its statutory responsibilities since August 2024. The opposition bloc claims that over 36 cases of alleged breaches involving illegal appointments, transfers, and other actions conflicting with Liberian law have gone unaddressed by the Office of the Ombudsman.
“This institution, financed by over $300,000 from the 2025 National Budget, has become a mere political bystander,” the statement reads. “While the Liberian people suffer from unchecked favoritism and institutional abuse, the Ombudsman remains mute and inactive.”
The CDC-CoP, a key opposition voice, is demanding that funds allocated to the Office of the Ombudsman be redirected to critical sectors such as healthcare. The funds should also go to education and social services. They argue that these areas have been neglected under the current administration.
Liberians, the group emphasized, deserve accountable governance and institutions that uphold national dignity and the rule of law. The Office of the Ombudsman, rather than serving as “political window-dressing,” should act decisively.
The CDC-CoP reiterated its commitment to defending Liberia’s democracy. They urged the Senate to act decisively to protect the Republic from what it termed “constitutional betrayal.”
