Monrovia, Liberia – Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe Jr. has hailed the August 7, 2025 “Say No to Drugs” March as a historic and resounding success, urging the Liberian government to adopt stronger and more practical measures to tackle the nation’s growing drug crisis.
In a statement issued by Team Snowe, a think tank aligned with the Senator’s political stance, thousands of Liberians from diverse political and social backgrounds braved heavy rains to march to Capitol Hill. The demonstrators petitioned the government for decisive action against drug and substance abuse, citing the urgent need to safeguard the country’s security and stability.
Senator Snowe underscored the importance of reviewing or enforcing existing drug laws, investing in rehabilitation facilities, and strengthening the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) through enhanced collaboration with community leaders.
He commended the organizers and sponsors for championing what he described as an apolitical, national cause.
“I urge all government officials to take every word in the petition seriously, and to respond with transparency and inclusive dialogue,” Snowe said. “As Senator, I am committed to using my oversight role to elevate and act on the petition from the August 7 March.”
The march, held under the banner “Say No to Drugs,” has been widely lauded as a unifying moment in Liberia’s fight against substance abuse.
