The Student Unification Party of the University of Liberia has demanded the immediate publication of the University President, Dr. Layli Maparyan's decision to suspend and dismiss staff of the University of Liberia.
Addressing the press on Tuesday at the University of Liberia Capitol Hill Campus, SUP Chairman Sylvester Wheeler regret and disappointment over the president of the University of Liberia Dr. what he called "her inability to respond and address many concerns raised by the students as well as the Student Unification Party."
This deliberate act of Maparyan has reached an unprecedented epic height," Chairman Sylvester Wheeler expressed."SUP wants to categorically say that going forward."
At the same time, he stated that the Student Unification Party (SUP) rejects the proposed plan to regard vacation school as a second semester, expresses disappointment in Dr. Maparyan's refusal to settle add-and-drop issues, and further demanding the immediate publication of her decision to suspend and dismiss staff of the University of Liberia.
Meanwhile, Chairman Wheeler has called on the University of Liberia President to take the following steps immediately:
"The immediate cancellation of plan to start new semester and regard the Vacation school as second semester.
To immediately address the Add and Drop issues, and to immediately publish the report that informed the University of Liberia President Maparyan's decision to dismiss and suspend eight staff members on April 30th, 2025 and recently with the Vice President for Fiscal Affairs.
Moreover, Wheeler stated that SUP strongly opposes President Maparyan's hiring of over 15 new staff members while neglecting the underpaid existing staff.
"This action is detrimental to the university's financial stability and the well-being of its employees," he expressed. "This dictatorship must end now! Maparyan cannot bring her former colleagues of retired USAID employees to the University to teach without proper channel."
