Boakai Gives 10-Day Ultimatum for Assets Declaration, Threatens Suspension.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has issued a decisive directive mandating all appointed government officials to declare their assets within 10 days or risk suspension. The directive, signed on November 27, 2024, follows persistent non-compliance with the 2014 Code of Conduct, which requires public officials to submit their assets declarations within 30 days of appointment.

The Code of Conduct, under Article 2, Section 10.2(h), stipulates that failure to declare assets within the prescribed timeframe results in immediate suspension from office until compliance is achieved. Despite several warnings, many officials remain non-compliant, prompting the President to take this stern action.

“Non-compliance undermines the principles of good governance and public accountability,” President Boakai stated, adding that transparency and integrity are cornerstones of his administration’s vision for Liberia’s governance.

The President emphasized that this is the final warning to delinquent officials. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a culture of trust and accountability in public service, urging officials to comply with the legal requirements promptly.

Officials who fail to meet the December 7, 2024 deadline will face immediate suspension. The President made it clear that his government will not compromise on its pledge to uphold the rule of law and ensure that public officeholders lead by example.

This move underscores the administration’s dedication to promoting transparency and good governance. President Boakai also called on the public to support efforts to enforce accountability and maintain high ethical standards in government.

The Executive Mansion is expected to release regular updates on the compliance status of officials to ensure public awareness and build confidence in the government’s reform agenda.
