The Cooperative Development Agency (CDA) is set to join the global community in observing International Cooperatives Day (ICD) on Saturday, July 12, in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.
While the global celebration officially falls on July 5, the Liberia Cooperatives Development Agency observance has been moved to the following weekend to accommodate national participation.
This year's global theme: "Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World," is complemented by Liberia’s local theme, "Building Liberia through Cooperative Value Chain," underscoring the vital role cooperatives play in national development.
The event will bring together cooperative societies, government ministries, including the Ministry of Agriculture, International partners, and other key stakeholders. Organized in collaboration with the Liberia National Federation of Cooperative Societies (LNFCS) and the Liberia Credit Union National Association (LCUNA), the program will showcase the cooperative sector’s impact on economic inclusion, job creation, and sustainable growth.
The annual celebration, backed by UN Resolution 47/90, aims to promote global solidarity and highlight cooperatives contributions to reducing inequality, empowering youth and women, and promoting peace.
CDA says, this year’s observance aligns with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda, a national development framework that seeks to tackle structural challenges and promote inclusive economic transformation.
The celebration in Tubmanburg will also serve as a platform for cooperatives to exhibit their achievements and advocate for stronger support to scale their impact nationwide.
