Monrovia, Liberia – June 10, 2025 President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has hailed Liberia’s recent election to the United Nations Security Council as a landmark achievement, describing it as both a “global responsibility and a national opportunity.”
Speaking during a special cabinet meeting, the President urged all Liberians to recognize the significance of the moment and to work collectively to make the most of the country’s two-year tenure on the world’s premier peace and security body. “Liberia is back on the global stage, and Liberia is ready,” President Boakai declared, as he commended the efforts of the Foreign Ministry and other stakeholders in securing the Non-Permanent Seat.
He emphasized that this success should bring increased global visibility and tangible benefits to the nation, aligning with his administration’s ARREST Agenda, the broader African agenda, and key global priorities.
The meeting featured a briefing from Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, who detailed Liberia’s roles and obligations as a non-permanent member. She highlighted the need for enhanced staffing, financial resources, and policy coordination to ensure Liberia can contribute meaningfully to the Council’s work on international peace and security.
Minister Nyanti stressed the importance of principled and strategic diplomacy as Liberia prepares to take its seat in January 2026. Her update formed the foundation for ongoing discussions on how Liberia will represent both national and continental interests during its tenure.
Tuesday’s cabinet meeting marked the first in a series of high-level engagements designed to solidify Liberia’s leadership role at the UN. The administration aims to use the opportunity to reaffirm Liberia’s commitment to global cooperation, peace, and sustainable development.
