MONROVIA, LIBERIA - In a press conference held today, Chairman Mulbah Morlu of the Solidarity & Trust For A New Day (STAND) reiterated the group's determination to proceed with the nationwide protest scheduled for July 17. Despite potential challenges, Chairman Morlu expressed confidence that the demonstration will go ahead as planned, citing widespread discontent with the government's performance as the driving force behind the protest.
Addressing a packed press room, Chairman Morlu highlighted several areas where the government has fallen short, leading to growing frustration among Liberians. "The people have lost trust in the government's ability to deliver on its promises," he said. "We have seen too many changes, too many promises, but little to show for it. The people are suffering, and it's time for change."
The Solidarity & Trust For A New Day (STAND) chair emphasized that the protest is a call to action, aimed at pushing the government to address the pressing issues affecting Liberians. "We are not just protesting for the sake of protesting," he said. "We are protesting because we want to see tangible changes in our lives. We want better healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. We want a government that truly serves the people."
Chairman Morlu dismissed concerns about potential disruptions and security risks associated with the protest, saying that STAND has taken necessary precautions to ensure a peaceful demonstration. "We have been engaging with various stakeholders, including security agencies, to ensure that the protest is conducted in a safe and orderly manner," he assured.
The July 17 protest has generated significant attention, with many Liberians expressing support for the STAND demands. Chairman Morlu urged all citizens to join the protest, emphasizing that it is a collective effort to bring about positive change in the country. "This is a moment for Liberians to stand together and demand a better future for themselves and their children," he said.
