Dr. Shuntay Smith Proposes to Donate 5,000 kid’s Textbooks to Schools in Liberia.
The Director of Outreach for Projectkiks, Dr. Smith has formally written a project proposal to supply the Clar Weah City of Hope Academy and several schools with over five thousand (5,000) textbooks. Projectkiks is an international non-profit organization that has been in existence for over a decade in the United States of America.
According to the Author Dr. Smith, these textbooks are in line with the National Curriculum of Liberia and are aimed at strengthening kid’s education.
“I have carefully created an age-appropriate educational book for ages 3-5 years. 123 Number Tracing Workbook for Preschooler with fun activities. The 5,000 books will be distributed to City of Hope. This allocation ensures equitable access to educational resources for students in Liberia at City Of Hope”. Dr. Smith asserted.
She disclosed in a written communication to former First Lady Weah that, her unwavering commitment to education and youth empowerment has inspired countless Liberians, including myself (Dr. Smith) all the way from the USA, to actively contribute to the betterment of Liberia’s education and With your endorsement, this book distribution campaign will be a testament to your dedication to providing every child with the tools they need to succeed.
Meanwhile, on August 25, 2023, a communication from the Ministry of Education through the office of the then Deputy Minister for Instruction Alexander N. Doupo addressed to Dr. Smith stated: “We grant official approval to the publication and utilization of these textbooks to be used in every school in Liberia”.
The Ministry of Education added, we found the book to be contextualized with the National Reformed Curriculum and sets the basis for beginners’ numeracy and skills.
However, Since former President Weah was defeated and a new administration led by Boakai-Koung Leadership took over, all efforts by Dr. Smith to make a shipment of those textbooks to Liberia have yielded fruitless.
Dr. Smith remains optimistic that the new administration will facilitate the process and back Projectkiks’ mission to enhance education in Liberia. However, with ongoing delays, the fate of this donation initiative remains uncertain, leaving schools in Liberia awaiting these vital educational resources.
