The Liberia National Police (LNP) has dismissed one officer and suspended two others following an incident of alleged theft involving foreign nationals. In a press release issued on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, Inspector General (IG) Coleman announced the disciplinary actions against the officers, citing “impropriety and gross misconduct.”
According to the release, the incident occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2024, when Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sam Gballah, also known by the code name R-2, along with Patrolmen Augustine Ben and Sensee C. Massaquoi, unlawfully entered the hotel room of two Vietnamese nationals, Mr. Nguyah Dean and Mr. Levan Tu, at the Luxury Hotel in Thinkers Village. The officers allegedly stole USD 25,000 from the hotel room during the evening hours.
Patrolman Sensee Massaquoi, who had been under indefinite suspension since 2018 for theft of property, has now been officially dismissed from the force following the recent incident. The LNP’s decision to dismiss Massaquoi highlights its determination to rid the force of individuals with a history of misconduct.
Meanwhile, ACP Gballah and Patrolman Augustine Ben, known by his code name “Cyber,” have been placed on interdiction. The two officers have been forwarded to the Professional Standards Division for an administrative investigation into their involvement in the alleged theft.
IG Coleman assured the public that the LNP remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold the highest standards within the force. He emphasized that the police will not tolerate any form of criminality or misconduct, reiterating his dedication to holding any officer accountable for their actions, regardless of rank or position.
The LNP’s decisive action in this case demonstrates its dedication to maintaining discipline and ensuring that law enforcement officers are held to the same standards as the citizens they are sworn to protect. IG Coleman stressed that no officer is above the law and that any breach of conduct will be met with strict consequences.
The public has been urged to remain patient as the Professional Standards Division conducts its investigation. The LNP is determined to carry out a thorough inquiry and promises to keep the public informed about the findings and any further actions taken against the involved officers.
