Monrovia, Liberia — Human rights lawyer Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe has appealed to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to issue an Executive Order to abolish graduation fees in Liberia. He argued that schools incur no expenses during graduation ceremonies, suggesting that charging fees for such events is unjustified.

Speaking on the Truth Breakfast Show on Truth FM 96.1 on October 7, 2024, Cllr. Gongloe emphasized that the imposition of graduation fees by schools is a tactic to extract money from parents. He stated that there is no valid reason for schools to demand these fees and urged the President to take swift action to alleviate the financial burden on Liberian families.

“Graduation fees are merely another means for schools to exploit parents financially,” Cllr. Gongloe asserted. He called on President Boakai to consider the well-being of the Liberian people and ensure that education remains accessible without unnecessary costs.

In a broader appeal, Cllr. Gongloe urged President Boakai to form an inclusive government that represents all Liberians, not just a select group. He highlighted that a government of inclusion is essential to foster unity and progress in the country.

Meanwhile, Cllr. Gongloe also warned of potential political instability if the legislature becomes dominated by opposition members. He stressed that such a scenario could create grounds for impeachment, urging the President to uphold his constitutional duties.

The call to action from Cllr. Gongloe came as he reminded President Boakai of his oath to protect and enforce the Constitution and Statute Laws of Liberia, advocating for adherence to the rule of law in the governance of the nation.
