The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency arrest 400 Plates of Compressed Marijuana worth USD22, 724 at Bo-waterside, Grand Cape Mount County, and Suspends Two Agents for Alleged Misconduct.

September 18, 2024 — The LDEA Team at the Bo Waterside Port of entry in Grand Cape Mount County, on September 16, 2024 at about 11hours, while conducting their regular search uncovered on board a white mini bus with a Guinean license plate #AG 1253, four hundred (400) plates of compressed marijuana.

According to the release, one of the fleeing drivers identified as Ansumana Kanneh, age 39, a Liberian, resident of Chicken Soup Factory, Gardnersville, was later arrested by the Joint Security Officers at the Tienii Check Point.

At the same time, the release quoted that the Mini bus has been impounded at Bo-Waterside while suspect Kanneh is undergoing a custodial investigation, which will be followed by court’s prosecution.

Furthermore, the 400 plates of compressed Marijuana seized were tested and proven to be Marijuana which weighs 299kg, with a street value of USD 22,724 or LRD 4, 317,560.00m.

In a Related development, on September 17, 2024, a team of LDEA Agents conducted drug raids at several ghettos within Montserrado and its environs.

During the operation/drug raid, several suspected drug dealers were arrested with various illicit substances. The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency highlighted.

The release emphasized that the seized substances were tested and found to be Marijuana, Kush (Methamphetamine), Cocaine, Heroin and Precursor, all weighing 270.7grams, with street value of USD6, 538.64 or LRD1,242, 341.60m.

The suspects arrested are undergoing investigations.Meanwhile, the Agency has, with immediate effect placed agents Abraham Goffa and Jusu Varney on administrative leave and turned them over to the Agency’s Board of Internal Inquiry and Professional Standard (BIIPS) for investigation into alleged misconducts during said raid.

“These agents are accused of taking personal belongings from some residents during the conduct of the raid. Consistent with the Agency Professional Code of Conduct, agents who are accused of such misconduct are subjected to internal investigation, and the appropriate measures, where the evidence suggests, are taken to avoid recurrence.” The LDEA release explained.

The Agency assures the public that while it continues to fight drugs and substance abuse in Liberia, it will uphold the rule of law by integrating transparency and accountability in its operations.
