President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has acknowledged the ruling of the Supreme Court and said the government will continue to work with the quorum that will ensure the full functioning of the government.
On April 23, 2025, the Supreme Court of Liberia ruled into the bill of information filed by Embattled House Speaker, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, declaring the speakership of Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon as unconditional.
However, the Liberian Leader addressed the nation this evening, emphasizing that the House of Representatives’ problem remains unresolved.
“Fellow Liberians, our Constitution and the Supreme Court have defined what constitutes a quorum for the conduct of business in the Legislature. We intend to vigorously uphold this vital principle of our constitutional democracy. We will continue to work with the quorum that will ensure the full functioning of our government,” President Boakai expressed.
President Boakai stated that his government is in consultation with relevant national stakeholders to determine the most appropriate and constitutionally remedies to the House impasse. “We have actively involved our traditional and other national leaders in addressing this matter,” President Boakai emphasized.
The Liberian Chief Executive reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the sanctity of and democracy of Liberia, the government is working closely to address kk the issues that undermine the Country’s democracy.
He noted that the division in the House of Representatives is undermining public confidence, pointing at the arson attacked on the Capitol Building and today’s action by Representative Yekeh Kolubah and others, destroying public properties.
“Let me be clear: under my leadership, the government of Liberia will not be held hostage by narrow interests or acts of lawlessness. The work of governance will continue, and nothing will distract us from our duty to serve the Liberian people.” President Joseph Nyumah Boakai stated.
His Excellency, President Boakai warned that anyone who violate the law will face the full weight of the law and justice. He continues by urging every Liberian to live peacefully, as the government remains steadfast in its responsibility uphold the values of democracy and good governance.
“I call on every elected leader to remember their oath, not to themselves, but to the Liberian nation-state and people. I call on every citizen to rise above division and to demonstrate the enduring values of patriotism, unity, and national purpose,” the Liberian Leader urged.
President Boakai addressed the nation late Thursday evening as a result of the Supreme Court ruling on Wednesday, April 23 2025 into the bill of information filed by Speaker Koffa.
