Former Vice President of Liberia and current Standard Bearer of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), H.E. Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, has officially endorsed Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh in the upcoming senatorial by-election in Nimba County. The move is being described as a major political boost for Gongloe-Weh’s campaign and a defining moment in the county’s electoral process.
In a statement released Thursday, Chief Dr. Howard-Taylor praised the decision of Concerned Partisans and members of the NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to rally behind Gongloe-Weh’s candidacy. Known for her advocacy in good governance and women’s empowerment, Gongloe-Weh is emerging as a strong contender in the race.
“I firmly support the decision made by our Concerned Partisans and NEC members to endorse Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh,” said the NPP Standard Bearer. “This is a critical time for all NPP supporters—particularly our women across Nimba County—to recognize the importance of standing with Edith. Her leadership will not only bring progress to Nimba but will also reflect the inclusive governance our country urgently needs.”
Chief Dr. Howard-Taylor also addressed the current leadership vacuum within the NPP, noting that the party has yet to be recognized by the National Elections Commission (NEC) due to unresolved internal disputes. She emphasized the need for unity and called for a transparent convention to reestablish the party’s leadership and credibility.
“Our party is at a crossroads due to the absence of a legitimate leadership structure,” she said. “However, we must rise above these challenges, reconcile our differences, and work together to revive the NPP through a fair and democratic process.”
Reaffirming her dedication to democratic principles and internal cohesion, Dr. Howard-Taylor committed to collaborating with loyal party members to rebuild the NPP’s strength both nationally and locally.
She concluded with a passionate appeal to all NPP partisans: “Remain vigilant, engaged, and united as we strive to shape a stronger, more inclusive National Patriotic Party that works in the interest of all Liberians.”
