Rabat, Morocco – April 7, 2026 – A high-level delegation from the Liberian Senate has concluded a strategic diplomatic visit to the Liberian Embassy in Rabat, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key concerns affecting Liberians residing in the Kingdom of Morocco.
The delegation, headed by President Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, included Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Senator Jonathan Boye-Charles Sogbie, Chair of the Senate Committee on Maritime. They were received at the Chancery by Liberia’s Ambassador to Morocco, Joseph F. Johnson, along with members of the diplomatic staff.
The visit followed the delegation’s participation in the 2026 Conference of Associations of African Senates (CAAS), a continental platform that promotes inter-parliamentary cooperation, democratic governance, and legislative harmonization across Africa.
During a formal engagement at the Embassy, discussions centered on the welfare of Liberians living in Morocco, particularly students benefiting from the Moroccan Government Scholarship Program. Embassy officials briefed the delegation on ongoing efforts to support the diaspora, as well as challenges affecting both citizens and diplomatic staff.
A major highlight of the meeting was the growing concern over irregular migration within the region. Ambassador Johnson and members of the Senate delegation examined the risks associated with illegal migration routes and stressed the need for increased public awareness and the creation of economic opportunities at home to discourage such dangerous journeys.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Pro Tempore Karnga-Lawrence praised the Embassy staff for their commitment and reiterated the Senate’s resolve to ensure that Liberia’s foreign missions are well-supported to effectively serve citizens abroad.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Embassy facilities and a renewed commitment by the Senate leadership to advocate for stronger diplomatic and development partnerships between Liberia and Morocco.
