The House of Representatives has unanimously voted to forward the Draft National Budget for Fiscal Year 2026 to the Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance for in-depth examination.
The committee, chaired by Hon. P. Mike Jury of Maryland County Electoral District #1, will spearhead the budget review process. He will be supported by Hon. Dorwohn T. Gleekia, Co-Chair for Revenue, and Hon. Atty. Michael Thomas, Co-Chair for Expenditure.
In collaboration with the Legislative Budget Office (LBO), the committee is expected to release a detailed schedule of hearings in the coming days. These hearings will focus on both revenue generation and expenditure plans.
Ministries, agencies, and public corporations will be invited to present and justify their proposed budget allocations, as well as outline their implementation strategies for the upcoming fiscal year.
This referral marks the official start of the Legislature’s constitutionally mandated budget scrutiny process. The initiative is designed to promote transparency, ensure fiscal accountability, and align national spending with the Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
