The Secretary General of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Hon. Jefferson Tamba Koijee, has issued a strong-worded statement accusing Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman of “outrageous lies” and “deliberate deception” regarding the death of compatriot Matthew Mulbah, who was allegedly killed by an officer of the Liberia National Police (LNP).
In his statement titled “A Response to Gregory Coleman’s Outrageous Lies to Deliberately Deceive the Public in the Death of Compatriot Matthew Mulbah,” Koijee extended condolences to the family of the deceased and described the incident as a “troubling moment” within Liberia’s security system that calls for reflection, accountability, and reform.
“The death of Matthew Mulbah was not an accident or an isolated act of misconduct, but one sanctioned under the authority and command structure of the Liberia National Police,” Koijee asserted.
The CDC Secretary General accused the LNP leadership under Coleman of fostering a culture of impunity and corruption, citing several alleged police-related killings, including:
✓ Essah Massaley and Abraham Kerkula – killed during the Kinjor Massacre on February 28, 2024;
✓ 17-year-old James Kandy – killed in Rehab on July 3, 2025;
✓ 17-year-old Mohammed Manobah – killed in Brewerville on May 9, 2025;
✓ 28-year-old pregnant woman, Musu Kiatamba – allegedly beaten to death on February 12, 2025;
✓ 17-year-old Favor – shot dead in Banjor, Brewerville City.
“These continuous deaths are not accidents; they are the bitter fruits of a corrupt system planted and nurtured under Gregory Coleman’s leadership,” Koijee said.
He further alleged that the police force has been infiltrated by known criminals and street gang members, some of whom were previously dismissed for robbery but later reinstated to key positions.
Quoting an eyewitness account, Koijee said the deceased, Matthew Mulbah, had become mentally unstable possibly due to cerebral malaria and resisted efforts to be taken to a hospital. He alleged that police officers forcibly entered his room, shot him multiple times, and dragged his body outside naked.
Hon. Koijee dismissed the police’s official version of the story that Mulbah stabbed an officer as “a blatant falsehood” and said the victim’s family will formally respond to what he called a “shameless falsification.”
He concluded by urging Liberians to “rise and demand accountability,” declaring that “until the police are cleansed of their criminal elements, peace and justice will remain illusions.”
