Ganta, Nimba County – September 6, 2025:
A major public health concern has surfaced in Ganta following the discovery of rotten fish and other spoiled food items at West Africa Enterprise Inc., Cold Storage Branch #6, located in the Congo Community.
The operation, led by Commerce Inspector General Meator Gbatu, uncovered stockpiles of unwholesome fish unfit for consumption. Gbatu described the find as “a grave violation of public safety,” warning that selling such products could endanger the lives of consumers.
“This is not just about bad business; it is about putting people’s health at risk,” Gbatu stated. “We will impose strict penalties, including fines and closure, on any business caught selling expired or contaminated food.”
The Inspector General further announced that routine inspections will be intensified in Ganta and across Nimba County to prevent future occurrences, stressing that food safety remains a top priority.
The incident has sparked outrage among Ganta residents, who condemned what they called “unscrupulous business practices” aimed at putting profit above people’s health. While many praised the swift intervention by the Commerce team, they urged authorities to remain vigilant in safeguarding consumers from unsafe goods.
