Rep. Musa Bility Exposes $500K Misappropriation Scandal in Legislature.

Monrovia, Liberia – Recent allegations by Representative Musa Bility have unveiled a scandal involving the misappropriation of over $500,000 allocated for legislative engagement by 28 members of the House of Representatives. According to Rep. Bility, the funds, intended to support the annual legislative activities of the “minority bloc,” were instead distributed among a select group of lawmakers in what he termed a “financial crime.”
Speaking to reporters, Bility criticized the misuse of public resources, revealing that a small group of representatives, calling themselves “bloc leaders,” took control of the funds and redirected them for personal use. “This blatant misappropriation is a financial crime that cannot be ignored,” he declared, emphasizing the need for immediate action to hold the culprits accountable.
The controversial funds, distributed in December 2024, were part of the previous year’s national budget. Rep. Bility highlighted that the misappropriated money is now being replaced in the upcoming budget, a move he claims attempts to cover up the corruption rather than address it. He stressed that this pattern of fiscal abuse undermines public trust in government institutions.
In his statement, Bility called on key anti-corruption and oversight institutions, including the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), the Ministry of Justice, the General Auditing Commission (GAC), and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), to investigate the matter thoroughly. “We will not remain silent while public trust is betrayed,” he warned.
The lawmaker further lamented the lack of accountability within the Legislature, citing this incident as part of a broader strategy to consolidate power among a select few at the expense of transparency and fairness. He described the situation as a direct assault on Liberia’s democratic principles and a test of the country’s commitment to good governance.
As the scandal unfolds, pressure mounts on the relevant authorities to act decisively. “The world is watching, and justice must prevail,” Bility concluded, underscoring the need for urgent and impartial investigations to restore public confidence in the Legislature.
