During a celebration of his 58th birthday on October 1, former President George M. Weah emphasized the importance of unity and peace in Liberia, calling on all citizens to love each other and work together. Weah stressed that without peace, “the world will be difficult,” highlighting the necessity for national cohesion.
The former president expressed gratitude to Liberians, especially members of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), for celebrating his birthday, despite his initial reluctance to hold a celebration. He credited the peaceful nature of Liberia for his rise to the presidency and reiterated his commitment to promoting peace across the country.
Mr. Weah, a notable advocate for peace during his tenure as president, urged all Liberians to join him in fostering a peaceful environment, as he believes peace is crucial for the nation’s development and stability.
Meanwhile, Representative Frank Saah Foko of Montserrado County District #9 issued a stern ultimatum to President Joseph Boakai, demanding the dismissal of key government officials, including Commerce Minister Amin Modad, within 72 hours. Foko accused Modad and Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) boss Abdullah Kamara of engaging in corruption.
Speaking as the keynote speaker at the CDC headquarters in Congo Town, Representative Foko argued that if President Boakai truly seeks to unite Liberia, he must take swift action against these officials. He also criticized President Boakai for allegedly sending dishonest communications to former President Weah.
Hon. Foko went further to suggest that the 55th National Legislature would consider impeaching President Boakai upon their return from break if he fails to act. The Representative underscored the importance of holding officials accountable to maintain trust in the government.
In addition, Foko called on President Boakai to reinstate dismissed Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) boss Abraham Kroma. Foko alleged that Kroma’s removal was tied to an investigation implicating President Boakai’s son, Tantan Boakai, in drug trafficking activities, a claim that has yet to be substantiated.
