President Boakai breaks ground for a Modern Television and Radio Complex at the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS).

August 16, 2024 – President Joseph Nyumah Boakai broke ground for a new Television and Radio expansion complex at Liberia Broadcasting System. The project is fully sponsors by the Chinese government for a modern broadcasting radio and television stations of Liberia.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, President Boakai thanks the Chinese government for their continuous support to Liberia and said the collaboration with China is a powerful demonstration to strength and progress of the international partnership and share commitment to mutual growth and participation.
The Liberian Chief Executive hailed the project as a significant shift to the Liberia Broadcasting System and said it will positively impact the population of the country, which he also said that the project represents much more then the mere construction of physical media facilities.
Meanwhile, President Boakai through his address said that expanding the broadcasting capacity will ensure that every voice can be heard and every view can be expressed, adding that it is a testament of his commitment to the unwavering and vibrant free press and further expression of views to access information about the government.
The president highlighted that the project is a delectation to progress, education, free exchange of ideas as well as the expression of public awareness to the people on the situation and direction of the country.
At the same time, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai urged the Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System to remain resolute in his resolve to take the true to the people, to pull the government and the people closer and to also promote the image of Liberia. He said, “the government count on you to play well your part in undertaking to change the narrative of the country.” President Boakai told LBS Director General, Eugene Fargon.
Moreover, the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, His Excellency Ambassador Yin Chengwu said that the project is a better force in addressing the needs of the Liberian people and to forester social progress and he also highlighted that it is one of the vital forces of information for the entire country.
Ambassador Yin Chengwu further lamented that, LBS has significantly contributed to Liberia’s social development, adding that the Chinese government will help LBS with more modern working environment, more equipment, improve the capability of program production, broadcasting, transmissions and among others. He said that the project is a key driver in keeping China and Liberia friendship and corporation
The Chinese Ambassador urged the Liberian government to work together with China to advance modernization and to lay a solid foundation for building a high level China, Liberia community with a brighter future. He re-echo LBS Director General, Eugene Fargon that LBS will never be the same. Amb. Yin Chengwu attested.
Nevertheless, LBS Director General, Hon. Eugene Fargon thanks the Chinese Ambassador for his efforts in making sure the Liberia Broadcasting System gets a new modern television complex and said that LBS will be forever grateful to China for their works. He at the same time thank the President for making the project a success.
Hon. Fargon appealed to the Chinese Ambassador to send some senior staff and other professionals of LBS for at least one year training to China to be ready to operate at the facilities right after the completion and delegation of the Radio and TV complex. He said, “with the groundbreaking ceremony today, LBS will never be the same.
Lastly, LBS Director General, Hon. Eugene Fargon said they recognized the work of the Chinese government and its people in the evidence of the equipment at LBS and the six sub-stations in the counties, and listed few projects that was constructed by the Chinese: the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex, the EJS Ministerial Complex, the University of Liberia Fendel Campus, the Minister of Health and others.
