The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) has efficiently removed over fifty-one truckloads of garbage from the Center Street temporary holding center within three days, showcasing its commitment to maintaining the city’s cleanliness.
The MCC Sanitation team initiated the cleanup on Monday, August 19, successfully removing twenty truckloads of waste. The operation continued on Tuesday, August 20, with an additional thirteen truckloads cleared, followed by eighteen more on Wednesday, August 21, by press time.
Meanwhile, Mr. Abraham Duo, Supervisor at the Center Street temporary holding station, stated that the facility is currently serving as a provisional solid waste site. This arrangement is necessary while major renovations are ongoing at the Fiamah and Stockton Creek transfer stations.
Mr. Duo noted that the renovations at these key sites are nearly complete, with about ninety percent of the work finished. He assured that the transfer stations would soon resume operations, easing the load on the temporary Center Street facility.
Moreover, garbage collection at the Center Street location occurs every 48 hours to manage the city’s waste. The temporary holding center has been vital in upholding sanitation standards during the renovations.
The MCC emphasized that this recent operation is part of its ongoing efforts to manage and clear garbage from the Center Street facility, ensuring the city remains clean and safe for residents.
The MCC’s swift and effective action highlights its dedication to maintaining sanitation, even as Monrovia faces challenges due to the temporary closure of its primary waste transfer stations.
The successful clearance of waste from the Center Street temporary holding center is a significant achievement, reflecting the MCC’s proactive approach to waste management amid ongoing infrastructure challenges.
Nevertheless, Community members have expressed their appreciation for the MCC’s efforts, noting the positive impact on public health and the environment.
The swift removal of waste has not only improved the cleanliness of the area but has also reduced the risks associated with improper waste disposal, such as the spread of diseases and the attraction of pests. The MCC’s continued vigilance in waste management underscores its commitment to fostering a cleaner, healthier Monrovia.
