Margibi County District #1 Police Commander Given 72-Hour Ultimatum to Eradicate Drugs from Duazon Community.

Duazon, Margibi County – The newly appointed Depot Commander of Duazon, Superintendent Philip Nymlin, has been issued a 72-hour deadline to rid the community of drug-related activities. The directive was handed down by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and Regional Commander J. Nelson Freeman during the induction ceremony on August 21, 2024.
DCP Freeman, who represented the Police Inspector General (IG) at the event, stated that the ultimatum was in response to numerous complaints from residents concerning the growing presence of drugs in the area. He urged Superintendent Nymlin to act decisively and in accordance with the constitution of Liberia and the protocols of the Liberia National Police (LNP).
In his remarks, General Police Commander of Duazon and Schieffelin Township Superintendent Youbothy T. Kweeh Sr. emphasized the importance of community collaboration in combating crime. He noted that effective policing cannot occur without the active support of the community and encouraged Nymlin to foster a strong working relationship with both his fellow officers and local residents.
However, the appointment of Superintendent Nymlin has sparked controversy. Duazon Schieffelin Township Council Chairman Biddle expressed concerns that Nymlin might be connected to drug traffickers in the district. Biddle argued that these alleged ties make Nymlin unfit to serve as the commander of the Duazon police station and called for his induction to be reconsidered.
The Duazon Depot, built under the administration of former Representative Tarpowhen of Margibi District 1, was established to address the high number of criminal cases in the township. Residents had previously struggled with limited access to justice, which the Depot was intended to alleviate by providing a stronger law enforcement presence in the area.
Superintendent Nymlin, while acknowledging the challenges ahead, expressed his commitment to serving the community. During the ceremony, he apologized for any past misunderstandings and pledged to work closely with the residents of Duazon and Schieffelin Township to ensure their safety and security.
Nymlin also appealed for forgiveness from the community, asking for their support as he takes on his new role. He assured the residents that he would work tirelessly to meet the 72-hour deadline and restore order to the area.
As Superintendent Nymlin takes office, the community will be closely monitoring his efforts to see if he can fulfill the mandate and rebuild trust between the police and the public in Margibi District 1.
