Monrovia, Liberia – A group of returnees from Ghana assembled at President Joseph Boakai’s residence today, demanding the fulfillment of promises made to them by the Liberian government. The returnees, who were previously living at the Buduburam Camp in Ghana, expressed frustration over the government’s failure to deliver on commitments made through the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC).
The returnees highlighted several critical challenges, including a lack of shelter, food, and the resettlement benefits that were promised upon their return to Liberia. They stated that their primary reason for coming to the President’s residence was to seek urgent redress for their grievances.
The returnees’ demonstration underscores ongoing issues related to the government’s handling of repatriation and resettlement processes, raising questions about the effectiveness of the LRRRC and the fulfillment of its obligations to returnees.
